DIY NECK ROPE INSTRUCTIONS

Everything you need to create your own tack is right here, including step-by-step instructions, clear images, and a video tutorial at the bottom of the page if you'd prefer to learn by watching.

Step 1

Take six strands of paracord and thread them through the metal ring. Tie a secure knot, leaving extra length on each strand, these will form your tassels.

Step 2

Begin braiding by crossing your left pair over the middle pair, then cross your right pair over the new middle pair. Repeat this pattern to build your braid.

Step 3

Keep braiding until roughly 5 cm from the end, or stop when you've reached your ideal length. That's the joy of making your own tack, you control every dimension to suit your horse perfectly.

Step 4

Thread the end of your rope back through the metal ring and tie another knot. Keep these knots tight and neat, pull each individual piece of paracord to ensure maximum tightness.

Step 5

Trim your tassels to your preferred length, then use a lighter to seal the ends. Hold the lighter carefully over the knot and press the sealed edges together for extra durability.

Step 6

Attach your Canter & Craft metal plate securely with needle and thread. The plate features an intentional blank face, perfect for personalisation. Take your DIY further by having it engraved with your horse's name, your name, your riding school, or your social media handle. Most pet stores and key cutters offer engraving services, making customisation straightforward and affordable.

Step 7

Now all that's left is to enjoy your handmade tack and the pride of creating something special for your pony. Share your finished piece with us on social media, tag @canter.and.craft so we can celebrate your craftsmanship.
